    SAFETY SWITCHES (RCD)

Did you know the wiring in your home could leak electricity and cause an electric shock to anyone that touches an affected surface? Do you know about the simple and affordable device that could save the life of someone in your home? Read on to find out more about the little life-saving device known as an RCD safety switch!

What is an RCD safety switch?

Fitted to the switchboard of your home, residual current devices are electrical safety switches that cut the electricity supply immediately if an earth leakage occurs. As of the year 2000 it is now law that every home be fitted with at least two RCD’s.

Why do I need safety switches?

Circuit breakers and fuses are not effective in protecting against electrical shocks because the amount of currents needed to flip them off is enough to kill you.

RCD switches fix this problem by killing the current before it is great enough to kill or seriously injure you or your family.

How do I test my safety switches?

Testing these devices is important and very easy. Each switch has a round blue test button which should be pressed every three months. When pressed, the RCD should switch off instantly. In the event that the switch fails to turn off, you should contact a licensed electrical contractor immediately.

What if I’m selling my home?

If you’re selling or renting your home it must be fitted with the minimum two safety switches for the title to be legally transferred, or the lease signed. If your home does not already have these devices installed, simply get in contact with us and we’ll be happy to provide a no-obligation quote.

    Smartfix Promise

You simply can’t put a price on safety, and many electrical problems can be hidden or difficult to find. RCD switches are the only thing between you and a deadly current. At Smartfix we promise to guide you through the process of installation and testing to ensure your home is as safe as possible.
